Pictures of Ocuituco, Mexico by Rick Meyer

Ocuituco has an interesting history. It capitulated to Cortes during the conquest but then was one of the few towns removed from the Marquesada del Oaxaca (Oaxaca territory was huge then) awarded to him. The Augustinian Order founded their first monastery (featured on these pages) here in 1534 named Santiago Apostol. In the war of independence troops regrouped here.

Being a short microbus ride here from Yecapixtla, it is fairly easy to visit several of these old convents in a half day out of Cuautla.      (Pictures taken April 30, 2004)
