Close up of a bloom stalk of the maguey plant. In pre-Hispanic times, these gigantic flower stocks formed the structure of houses in Mexico. In earlier days, people valued the maguey very highly and no one could have imagined that today's younger generation would let the magueys begin to die out when their grandparents passed on.
