The Pyramid of the Sun is the highest and oldest of the pyramids built over a sacred cave which has been quarried for additional building material. This pyramid was originally painted bright red which must have been a fantastic site to behold.

From the plaza part way up the pyramid of the moon, the pyramid of the sun appears to take on the shape of the distant hill.
