Planting Sesame (1997) Planting is usually back-breaking work. Here, men are planting sesame, which is an important cash crop in the Costa Chica. Each man has a container filled with seeds tied to his waist. After having plowed rows, they walk down each row, and at each stride reach in to the container and grab some seeds, make a shallow hole in the ground with the machete, and drop the seeds in. Although it is very hot, most men wear pants when they go to work, because the mosquitos are often thick.
