Colorful Tastoan masks take on an ominous character when worn during the annual performances on the feast day of Saint James. A tradition that originated in 12th century Spain, the Tastoan dance re-enacts Spain's liberation from the Moors with Saint's miraculous help. In Mexico, it makes reference to the Spanish Conquest. These masks arre the handiwork of Prudencio Guzman.
