On November 20, Mexico celebrates the Anniversary of the Revolution of 1910. We abhor war and violence, but recognize the passions, bravery and sacrifice of those on both sides.

A search of MexConnect's history articles will provide the background, analysis and biographies of the protagonists. This year, we'd like to share stories about three foreigners who were there during the struggle of 1910 to 1916. They make the Revolution vividly real on a human level.

Maggie Van Ostrand transcribes a U.S. journalist's interview with "The Attila of the South," revolutionary leader Emiliano Zapata.

Julia Swanson tells the story of her grandfather Frank Henry, an English silver mining engineer, with excerpts from family letters.

James Tipton reviews Drums in the Hills, written by the son and granddaughter of Frank Dolezal, an Austrian immigrant who found himself fighting with Pancho Villa. They base their story on Dolezal's journals.

Far from romanticizing the revolution, these articles make a cogent plea for peace.
