Pictures of Tacambaro, Mexico

On this and the next page are pictures of the city of Tacambaro. From the bus station in Patzcuaro it is a 1.5 hour trip to the southeast for 20 pesos. The trip takes you up through pine forests and over a mountain ridge on as nice a road as you will see in Mexico. Tacambaro is another town like Uruapan which is in the transition zone between the high and dry and low and steamy coastal climate. Although dubbed the city of palms, I must confess that I did not see one palm tree there. The road descends around the city on the east, skirts the south side, and heads west to the bus station. Get off the bus with the pack before the bus station, and you can easily walk north to the central plaza.

Generally looking north these three pictures combine to create a panoramic view in front of the ayunamiento (city hall) on the east side of the town's central plaza. As with all city halls in Mexico, there is always a crowd around conducting their business (or waiting for someone else that is conducting business). The church is the next building north.

Looking east from the west end of the central plaza, the area is well foliated, otherwise you could see the church. Looking east from the bandstand in the plaza provides a framed view of the church. The northwest corner of the central plaza has interesting architecture in a relatively low traffic area.
