Pictures of Morelia, Mexico

Morelia is the capital of Michoacan. The architecture is colonial style and the momentum of civic intent is to promote and preserve this inheritance. The city is organized around a large central square with fountains, trees, a bandstand, and a spectacularly maintained cathedral. There is also a large city park and a zoo.

The Palacio de Gobierno is frequently the focal point of sit-ins and demonstrations. The fountain on the west end of the zocalo. Trees in the zocalo just west of the cathedral provide welcome shade.

The portico on the north side of the zocalo features the tables for coffee drinking. Even after noon in the heat, coffee is the preferred beverage. In Bosque Cuauhtemoc (the large city park) swans enjoy a swim. A map in the museum shows that the park was once one quarter of the city. It looks to be about a third of its original size.
