Cuernavaca is one of the most interesting cities in Mexico. The almost 100 pictures on 18 pages here only scratches the surface of attractions. Commanding the high ground above an agriculturally productive state and on an important land route the location has been prized since Aztec times. Cortes and his family made a base here after the conquest due in part to the excellent year round climate.
Today the city owes its rapid development to those seeking escape from the crime, traffic, and smog of nearby (about 80 km) Mexico City. Frequent buses from Terminal Sur and directly from the Mexico City airport serve Cuernavaca. (Pictures taken April 26-28, 2004) |

| The centrally located Jardin Juarez is probably the busiest plaza in the city when there is no demonstration in the zocalo. Snack food is sold everywhere here. Left looking south down Galeana street the Palacio Gobierno is the portaled building. Center looking northeast at the central bandstand. Right at night five ladies all compete to sell the same corn on the south side of the plaza. | ||
