Last week Hurricane Paulina lashed the southern coast of Oaxaca and Chiapas states and struck Guerrero with tremendous force. For readers interested in finding out more about this crisis and how they can help, the following websites have updated information:

http://acapulco-travel.web.com.mx/huracan/home.html Acapulco Travel Web, a general interest, travel-related website has stepped out in front to provide updated information and relay messages to family and friends in Acapulco. Email: acapulcotn@spin.com.mx.

http://www.aca.novenet.com.mx/portada/portada.html Coverage from Novedades Acapulco, the daily newspaper. Please note that this link sometimes does not work, perhaps a result of the hurricane. But the coverage is first-rate, so keep trying.

http://206.48.16.100 If you're in Mexico City, here's information on how you can help and what is needed in the afflicted areas (canned goods, bottled water, and NOT clothes). This page links to the Red Cross and is part of the Xerox Mexicana website.

http://wombat.eden.com/~tomzap/pina.html Piña Palmera, located near Pochutla Oaxaca, was hit hard by the storm. This center provides shelter, meals, training and support for people with physical disabilities. Financial donations are encouraged. Email: pinapalmera@laneta.apc.org

Strangely enough, the majority of "Acapulco" pages on the web don't even mention the storm.
Worst of the Web awards go to:
Windows on the World Mexico (http://www.wotw.com/mexico/Guerrero/acapulco.html),
Go 2 Mexico (http://www.go2mexico.com/aca/aca.html)
and City Guide (http://citynet3.excite.com/countries/mexico/guerrero/acapulco/).
