One of Mexico's premier destinations for mountain biking has its own website. Take a virtual trek to the northern state of Chihuahua, where Mexico's National Mountain Bike Championships is held each year. Beyond the annual event, there are a number of circuits for the beginning and advanced cyclists.
For aficionados of the sport, there's the Mountain Biking in Chihuahua website (http://www.megalink.NET.mx/bike/mtb.htm), an excellent resource and one of the best sources of info about the region. Designed by Leo Medellin, the archive provides information on weekly rides as well as a list of local bike stores and bike teams (Carrefour, Terra Bike and TelCel). Currently, the pages are only in Spanish.
The site focuses on Chihuahua City and nearby destinations, such as the Cumbres de Majalca National Park. Info about Creel - the popular gateway to the Copper Canyon - is also online. For more general information about Chihuahua, there is a well-deserved link to Monterrey Tech's Chihuahua page at http://www.chi.itesm.mx/chihuahua/.
The layout of the site is appealing. Photos are used sparingly except in the galleries, where they document both the passion of this sport and the beauty of the state. There is also a text-only version of the site for those who want their info without the frills. Whatever section you visit, be forewarned - once you visit the website, it's hard not to begin making travel plans.
