Well tended grounds surround rooms. Lovely pool backed by colonial arches and shade trees.   Built in 1610 (yes, 1610!) this historic hotel was designated a national monument following its renovation in 1981. Benito Juárez (one of Mexico most loved presidents) stayed here. Right off Guadalajara's main plaza, this 3-story structure is entered through an atrium lobby with skylight and marble fountain at its center. Frosted glass, period paintings, and bird cage elevator lend to the charm. Tne hotel's 60 rooms come in various shapes and sizes and offer tile or carpeting, king or double beds, and fans (no airconditioning). The Rose Cafe offers informal dining.
