SILVER IN MEXICO CITY

I have been told a number of times that there is wholesale silver in Mex DF, at comparable prices to Taxco. Does anybody know whereabouts in Mex DF this would be? I'm also after the name of the street that has all the gold jewelry. If anybody knows it, we'd be very grateful.

Be very cautious in buying gold jewelry. Always buy it from a reputable jewelry store. Gold has an international price so real gold jewelry is not much cheaper in Mexico. The main advantage to buying gold jewelry in Mexico is that you can find some excellent handmade pieces. As a result of this it is much easier to find 18 kt gold jewelry here. I have bought 18 kt pieces here in the US but ironically, it was at small family owned Mexican jewelry stores. The price of the labor will be cheaper in Mexico but the actual price for the gold will be the same as in the US or elsewhere. John

In the Zona Rosa district, there is a Mercado Insurgentes, on the South side of Calle Londres between Florencia and Amberes, that is very popular and sells silver at a quality and price similar to Taxco.

Hello, The hotel area around the Zocalo has tons of gold places. They seem to be reasonable and you can bargain, but the higher carat gold is generally not available. tony
