RETURNING VEHICLE IMPORTATION STICKER

Tuesday as we left Mexico at Mexicali we were unable to return our vehicle importation sticker. Once you got into one of the lines to leave Mexico (multiple lines about a mile long) there was no where to park or stop to return the sticker. Once inside the US, I was not going to get into one of the long lines to re-enter Mexico to return it and then get into one of the mile long lines to get back into the US, all in the hundred degree heat. So, my question is, what do I do now? Can I mail it to them? Has anybody had any experience with this situation? I live in Washington State, so going back on another weekend to return it is not reasonable. Thanks in advance for any assistance!

Last year I entered at Nuevo Laredo, exited the country at Nogales, didn't return my sticker. Returned to Nuevo Laredo Nov 99, no problem getting new sticker, no mention of where my old one was. Same vehicle, same license plate, same name.

Just came back from Guadalajara through Nogales, stopped to return sticker and Mexican officer said that it wasn't necessary and could be used for the six month period of time since issued. He said didn't need to be returned. If they took it, do you really think that they would enter that info into their computer system...I don't think so! If you want to take the same car back someday, it will be obvious that you didn't leave it in Mexico, and if you want to take a different one down, I've never heard of anyone having a problem. Their computers aren't that up to date yet...and if even so, anything is possible to accomplish in Mexico! At worst it could cost you $20.

To be on the safe side, contact the Mexican consulate close to your place of residence and see if you can turn it in there -- I've done it once and all was OK. (You get a receipt showing you turned it in.)

I've been in and out several times and NEVER turned it in. I know you are supposed to but it generally just isn't possible. Advice - Be sure and have the Mexican sticker scraped completely before you go back into Mexico and there won't (probably) be a problem.

At one time you did not have to worry about returning the sticker. However, they now keep track via computer.

"I can't", usually means, "that isn't a priority for me", and in reference to societal norms for behavior (law), constitutes a measure of sociopathy.

Had the problem last month at Los Indios. Computer down. Would we go to Progreso or Matamoros? No, thank you, we prefer Los Indios where there are no lines. But, we'll go down before the sticker expires in June and do the deed since we just live in San Antonio.
