Importing Boat Repair Parts posted by Bob Story on Febrero 01, 2000
Does anyone know the procedure that we can use to import repair parts and be exempt from Mexican Customs Duties for our US registered boat that we brought with us to Mexico?

- Go to the COTP (capitan de puerto) and tell him that your vessel is out of commission. Have him type a letter and sign it directed to Aduana (customs). Take the letter to the Aduana office where the part is coming in (port of entry). Explain to the customs man that the part is to repair your boat (he'll need to see the papers on the boat plus the crew list. In order for parts to be given full "temporary import" status, the old part must leave Mexico with the office of Aduana authenticating its departure.
- It seldom works this way exactly. Most customs folks want their palm greased.
Good Luck.
