Pictures of Tzintzuntzan, Mexico by Rick Meyer

Tzintzuntzan on this and the next two pages proved to be one of the best photo opportunities of the trip. This town faces Lake Patzcuaro to the north (when you expect the lake to be west). In pre-Columbian times it was the capital of the region. The archeological zone is set on a large level terrace well above and south of the town that has trees and catches cool breezes from the lake. The town has a large wooded park with benches for resting and churches for visiting. You can get here for 5 pesos from the Patzcuaro bus station.
