I sure am confused why that post was deleted. It is a good question. But in answer to your latest post, I have not heard anything bad about magic jack and the price is right. What $19.95 per year?

The only major disadvantage I can think of is that in order for it to work, you have to have your computer on. I have a phone adapter and a different brand, which allows me to receive calls anytime someone calls whether my computer is on or not. I also have a telephone number up north in the area code of my choice.

Which brand do I use? One of several that are very good. Many years ago esperanza recommended that I try; www.IconnectHere.com . I have been very happy with her recommendation

I have one and I am very satisfied with it, however I do not use it for a regular VoIP phone. My regular VoIP phone is Iconnecthere as described above. Keep in mind that MagicJack does not work well if the speed of your internet is slow. Both upload and download speeds need to be above 700 in my experience. I have my Magicjack service as an emergency back up, and as a travel phone system. Magicjack also gives you the choice of a phone number in the area code of your choice. I used my Magicjack for one month straight in Los Angeles on a trip there this year. It functioned almost flawlessly for the entire month. The few times I have tested it here in Mexico, the service has been sporadic. That is, one time it seemed to work, and the next time it would yield garbled conversatons, which I had attributed to the Telmex service having poor broadband upload speeds. I have not re-tested the device since starting to use a VPN that boosts my upload speeds. Over all I would definitely recommend it, but not as a regular VoIP phone system in Mexico. I believe, and I have read, that the Magicjack company has great future improvements planned for their device.
