I read a press release not long ago in which Vonage indicated that it would begin offering wireless VOIP phones (similar to cell phones) with a projected release date in May. Thus, by connecting to any available wireless hotspot, one will be able to make calls using a Vonage subscription. That will be nice in that we can dump our router to-adapter-to analog phone arrangement.

Flemming:

Many folks here in the greater Lake Chapala area connect to the internet, not over the telephone line but via two-way radio, sometimes called wireless, sometimes called 802.11b.

Whether vonage will work has less to do with your method of connection and more to do with the speed of that connection. Many folks using their high-speed wireless connections talk to their relatives up north using vonage, packet8, iConnectHere, etc. (My comments do not apply to 2-way satellite services like DirectWay)

Most persons with high speed connections have good luck with their VoIP connections most of the time. That said there are some who must not be getting the advertised bandwidth, because more often than not they have problems with their VoIP connections.
