Okay, you wise and wonderful people, I was told to ask you people in the know about solar ( I know your names but will not mention them) did you buy your solar equipment in MX or in the US?

I currently have a 1250 watt system at my casa. I want to move this system to my cabana (duplex) and upgrade my system for a washer and gas dryer. I don't have a lot of electrical needs so it won't take much.

Did you buy your systems in the US or MX? I bought my system in the US for about $3500 US about 7 years ago. Should I smuggle one from the US or buy one here? I'm currently talking to Dynamex about a MX system.

And for Neil, no I'm not obsessed--I live 5 miles to the nearest utility. However, if the truth be known, I LOVE being off the grid!

I would need to know a great deal more information about your needs and your present system to even hazard a guess. I have a photo-voltaic solar system that I purchased in Mexico. It consists of 22 panels and I'm attached to the grid in Ajijic.

During the past two months ending on the 11th, I sold 625 KWH of electricity during the day but consumed, mostly at night 727 KWH or a net total consumption of 102 KWH. What was my bill? $85 pesos.

I'm not asking for much. If you bought your system in MX what company did you buy it from? I'm totally off the grid so I'm looking to buy a new system of about 3000 watts plus to handle a washer and gas dryer. If I have to shut down my music to wash my clothes I will. I have internet and a CD player and that is about it. I have no interest in living like I did in the US some 7 years ago. I'm just looking for a reliable solar company in MX. Even though I'm not very knowledgeable about solar I can figure it out.

What companies are good in Mexico?

Karen:
It might be helpful towards your goals to read the following thread:

There is a link in there to take you to what Costco is selling. Wouldn't count on any service from them but sometimes their prices can be quite attractive.

Be very careful. Some companies that advertise solar energy products, do not have the best of reputations. A company that has a good reputation is www.esunenergy.com I have used them. My neighbors had great luck with www.e2energias.com

Both companies have a good reputation with my techie friends.

I'm sure there are other good companies out there. But these are the two that I know

There is a list of solar companies located in San Miguel de Allende atthis link:

The company Solar San Miguel has done work as far away as PV and DESMEX has offices in other cities. If you just want equipment and are going to install yourself 'Solar Heating & Solutions' usually has good prices for components they bring from the EEUU.
