Can anyone tell me about calling a cell phone what prefix to use for local and long distance and is anything else different when calling a cell phone or is just prefix-city code- number any help would be appriciated.

While in Mexico, you have to add a (1) after the area code.

I'm not sure that is quite accurate - if dialing a cell phone from outside Mexico, add a 1. Ana Maria Salazar's blog, dating back to the changes in dialing, is very helpful and can be found here:

Yes that blog gives great information
When phoning from the States, Canada,etc if you are calling a cell phone, add a 1 between 52 (the country code) and the ten digit Mexican Cell #.

In Mexico, when phoning a cell phone from your land line add a 044 before the number if you calling a local cell number or 045 if calling a long distance cell number.
