XM radio reception Lakeside

Can't Post | Private Reply
I've read many of the earlier posts re satellite radio reception in Mexico, and am still working on a decision of whether or not to include XM radio in a vehicle I'm bringing to the Chapala area next week. If I include it in the car, I'll probably also buy a unit which will receive the XM signal in the house and feed it into my home theater sound system.

What is anyone's recent experience of receiving XM radio Lakeside? Sirius?

Frank, if the 'earlier posts' you were referring to were in January of this year then I doubt that you will find any newer or different information about XM at Lakeside. If you didn't see those posts, see:

http://mexconnected.com/perl/foros/gforum.cgi?post=82719;search_string=XM%20radio;#82719

and begin with Johanson's post. It still works as described in those posts.

According to limited posts, Sirius works also.... but it seems that no one who posts here directly has Sirius.

If your house is 'in a bunch of trees', I doubt you will receive much if any signal. Johanson's house/antenna doesn't have significant tree cover. In your car, it works as my earlier post describes (and if one were to 'tape' the larger 'home antenna' onto their car like Johanson does/did, reception would be better than indicated by my posts because I was using the 'normal' smaller antenna designed to 'stick' on the car-top magnetically. I'm gonna try his trick in a couple of months when I drive down.

Thanks Rick, you saved me making the same post.

Years back the XM signal used to be stronger lakeside. Now the smaller stick on magnetic antenna seems to be too small for this area. The bigger antenna works great.

I'm told that the normal antenna with Sirius Radio works fine lakeside, but that is only hearsay

I just drove into Jiquilpan, Mich. from south Texas Saturday. I heard my XM radio all the way through even though it was cloudy all the way and there was sporadic rain. Today I went to Mazamitla and lost the signal around San Jose de Gracia for just a short period.

RickS, Johanson, and Jreboll,
I appreciate your responses, and looks like we are going to get XM in the new vehicle we're bringing down next week. Sounds like I need to be sure to have/get the larger antenna. I hope also to get a unit for the house, intending to plug it into our surround sound system in the sala.

I use my XM as far south as Belize and Guatemala. There are areas (between Villahermosa and Escarcega) where it goes out but in most of the country I've had good service.

You can get several antenna's and stands that plug into either your car or your home stereo but that use the same receiver. This means you can only use it in one place at a time but also, you are only paying one fee. I use the Roady II and like it, a friend just bought the newer version of mine (RoadyXT) but hasn't received it yet. The online store for all things XM is here http://www.myradiostore.us/
