Windows 8

Can't Post | Private Reply
I picked up a new Windows 8 Acer 15.6 inch touch laptop a few days ago from Costco. I felt a little intimidated trying to learn how to use it, so I stopped not a the local APPLE Store, but at the New WINDOWS store across the street in the same mall in Seattle. They were giving short classes on windows 8 on their new Surface touch screen tablets. I was able to learn a little in that ten minutes, but best of all was given a 450 page manual to help me learn how to use the new technology.

Would I recommend that you go out and get a new Windows 8 machine? My answer is No, if there is nothing wrong with your older one. But it sure looks like it will be fun to use, once I learn how to use it.

Johanson, you went to the wrong place. You should have went and asked a 15 year-old kid.

You are so right. And do you know what helped me? I understand what an iPhone 4 is and therefore what "apps" are. :) No I havent learned yet about the 4S or the 5, let alone the secrect voice of Siri . (What ever that is)

But I've got all kinds of spare time. So maybe for each ten hours I spend, I can learn as much as that 15 year old can in 20 minutes :). That way soon (maybe in a month) I will sound like I know what I'm talking about :)

Hello Johanson,
Windows 8 is an Ok OS for tablets or any system with touch technology.
I had the beta OS on a Laptop with touch screen the Metro interface for me was kind of buggy. Like any OS it will take time and a few patches before everyone get's on board. If anyone here would like instructions on how to get the Start orb (start button) on Windows 8 and disable Metro for the windows 7 look and feel but with Win 8 security let me know and I will post the tutorial.
Good day,
and hope you enjoy your new OS!

Is Windows 8 faster or slower than Windows 7? I can cook breakfast waiting for W7 to boot.

Windows 8 is Faster from a Gamers point of view (Benchmarks have proven this) Graphics are smoother start up is way way faster and Security WOW! However in the end it all depends on your Hardware as well. So if you have an old Netbook with 1gb of Ram Forget it! If you have at least 2 to 4gb ram
(32 bit) 4 or more (64bit) and at least a dual core proccesor better yet 4-8 cores you will see some great changes.

My Rig:
Amd x6 overclocked 4.2ghz
16gb Ram
Ati graphics card with HD (2gb)
1 HDD 160gb For both of my OS's (I also run Ubuntu)
2 HDD 1TB

So for a shorter answer yes it loads quicker
if your Window 7 is loading that slow than you have Operating System Rot (commonly mistaken for virus) try downloading (CCLEANER) spelled just like that.
1. download
2. install
3. follow instructions to clean everything there are two steps
4. reboot
5. still slow save all docs, pics, and bookmarks
6. reinstall windows
7. OS Rot happens it's normal

Don't you just love that. My favorite is you log in using a Live email account so this way everything follows you from one machine to the other in the clouds.

Yes, I picked up a touch screen when I got Windows 8. And was surprised that some of the links or as I call them "apps" are both on my "I" products (iPhone,iPad, Etc) and on windows 8 as well. You know, like "TuneIn Radio" It's fun when on line listening to the radio stations I used to when living in Europe via internet, especially Radio Veronica (NL) and Radio Caroline (England)

Oh, Mateo, porque soy pocho via gringolandia, de Escandinavia, puedo hablar solamente linques Alimaneas, pero no puedo hablar mucho Espan~ol, wey :)

And yes I did spell that last word "wey", that way, to joke rather than to suggest something not so good :)

Si es la verdad soy pocho,
but that's not a bad thing. LOL!
Check out the free Majic Jack App on iphone or android if you have a MJ you can use the same account on your smart phone.
This way you don't miss a call when you go out for coffee or whatever. Works on 3g and 4g as well and does not use much data at all.
Saludos,
Mateo

Yes that is a very good idea. I too have an App on my iPhone 4 (only 3G, darn it) to allow me to use my favorite VoIP service. I could, of course, do it on my laptop too with a plugin headset with and microphone, like I did many years ago. But I find it much easier these days to take a Linksys Phone Adaptor with me that I plug into the router/modem to get my reception and then plug a cordless phone into the other end. (much like a magic jack) when travelling.

I happen to use www.iconnecthere.com mostly because that what I have always used, not because it is necessarily best.
