What's the Best Cell Phone System?

Can't Post | Private Reply
We will be travelling from Seattle in Nov/Dec and travelling around Mexico for the next 6 months. We have to keep in contact with our family.Mom is in a longterm care unit.
What systems seem to work best for both receiving and sending calls ? Someone said the Verizon Internatational didn't work for them but the T-Mobile with a Mexico Sim card did.
I'd be interested in hearing what is the Latest Info.
Thanks Jim

Verizon North America Plan is best suited for your purpose. Keeping your US area code and number will make it easier on those trying to reach you from the north and, unlike international roaming, you will not be paying exhorbitant fees by the minute when calling them. Coverage is good except in the boondocks. It is not a good plan for those who intend to use it to make calls to local persons and businesses in Mexico. For that limited purpose you can pickup a Telcel Amigo prepaid phone and give it, along with the unexpired minutes, to someone else when you leave Mexico.

I use my Verizon North American plan to make local and long distance calls here in Mexico and only incur a charge against my minutes.

I'm just guessing here but, do you find that your local messages are rarely answered? It is an international long distance call for those people to call you back. That is why I recommended Amigo to the OP...

Brian,

Your guess is correct, I only use that phone to make calls. If I leave a message I ask it be returned to my home phone or my Mexican cell.
