VOIP/Telmex problems anyone?

Can't Post | Private Reply
Just curious as to whether anyone on this forum has a vonage phone and is experiencing breakup problems. We're not experiencing this in Cozumel but rumor has it that in other parts of Mexico Telmex is experimenting with various techniques to make the inexpensive VOIP technology unusable by a variety of methods. This has been ruled illegal in the US. But we all know Telmex. Any reports of problems using your vonage phone service calling long distance via a dsl connection?

My first answer disappeared into the Ethernet. So here I go again. Perhaps someone has something new to post about this subject, if not, there have been many posts already made discussing same in the Technical Mexico forum which should answer your questions. To find these posts simply go to the tech Mex index page or do a search using the MexConnect search engine.

YES!!

I am going nuts with this. I bought a Vonage system and set it up, but after many expensive phone calls to the US to talk to their service department, they said that my system is slow and is "timing out". So I haven't been able to connect at all.

I have cablevision's cable service, which I am thinking is only cable until it gets a few blocks away, and then it uses Telmex crappy lines. The only choice I have is to pay to increase my cable speed and hope that works. Vonage only needs a consistant 100k, but apparently it's not even getting that.

I wasn't aware that Telmex uses cable company lines. I may be wrong but I thought they were seperate beasts. Here on Cozumel cable internet subscribers have been pulling their hair out for the past two weeks or so. Service has been nightmarish. I have prodigy inifinitum and I get good reception on my vonage calls about 85% of the time but I keep waiting for the axe to fall as I hear it has done in other parts of Mexico. Where are you located?

More than a few people here in Mazatlan had problems with their Vonage/Telmex VOIP a couple of months ago. In fact several reportedly paid penalties to get out of the Telmex contract in order to switch over to Megared at a premium price to continue using Vonage.

Telmex DSL is suddenly back to supporting VOIP properly, and users are receiving higher speeds and clearer signals. (Not all VOIP programs were affected as adversely as Vonage was. I use Dialpad and Delta Three Iconnecthere). All is well for those that exercised patience in yet another unexplained mystery in Mexico.
