Under AMPing my modem

I lost my wireless modem power adapter when our house was broken into and have not been able to find a new one. From Telmex I would need to buy another modem for $999

Anyway ... I started using the lower AMP adapter from a regular modem and it seems to be working fine. I wonder if the higher amperage is only used when you increase the wireless power output that is adjustable in the configs - from 1 to 10.

Wireless uses 2 amp and normal uses 1 amp

I think you should be Ok. Isn't this simply using something with greater capacity than is needed? To me it would be the same as using a 1,500 watt voltage regulator for example when plugging in appliances that are only drawing say 500 watts. I think you should be OK unless the true voltage supplied at your amperage draw is to high.

If it's not OK then I am in trouble, as I have done this rather often with other types of equipment
