I've been having an email discussion with another fellow here about the dew point and this ties in with it. I'm somewhat trapped by my technology and software. I have two temp/humidity sensors, one in the yard at about 5' and the other on the roof. The software doesn't allow a lot of "mix & match" so it arbitrarily creates the "broadcast" overlay with readings from sensor #1, the one located in the yard where you or I would normally be so the temp is correct. But, that's also where there is vegetation and watering so the humidity is artificially high. If I designate the roof top sensor as #1 the temp reading is as much as 10 degrees higher but where the relative humidity is a more true reading. The large gauge is the better indicator of humidity, so I lined out the one in the pic, I can't remove it or tell it to read from sensor #2, the software doesn't allow that and I've caused more confusion in my attempt to fix it. There is a graph which I don't display, maybe I should post it as well to contrast the two humidities. There are other softwares that might be more flexible, but it would take a lot of work to design a new site, get the software to work and it would look totally different so I've resisted the temptation to do that. The dew point is also not totally correct again due to the sensor locations, it's not off a lot, but a bit. Unfortunately the #1 readings are sent to Wunderground so people see a good temp reading, but humidity is too high and we're trapped in the middle. The red line appears when a gauge goes over the high limit, I can set the range on that gauge. The weather software is in some respects very complex, yet in others very simple. It's written to support many different brands of equipment so they don't spend as much time on the graphics and flexibility as some of us would like. And yes, with the help of our good friends at the CFE it's always a challenge, it took about 5 intense hours yesterday to get the db back online, fortunately it didn't corrupt any data, only wiped out the date stamps. There have been times when the rainfall amount needs to be manually adjusted or input and that's a big problem, as many as 4 different binary files interact and when you change one it changes others and it's not documented so you just learn by trial and error. www.chapalaweather.net
