I was having a great deal of static on my telmex phone line and the well trained person who wired my house did some checking and honestly believed the problem was TelMex's.

Well last friday the phone finally died, and I reported same to TelMex. About an hour later I saw a TelMex repair person about a block from my house and asked for help. Within twenty minutes he was there, and 15 minutes later, he showed me the problem, which was mine not his, he spent another 15 more minutes fixing the problem and then tried to leave before I could tip him for his help.

I tipped him and like any proud person he pretended to be surprised. I just thought after all the bad things we hear about TelMex that I ought to say something nice.

I've only had one experience with Telmex repair and I have to echo your sentiments here, I found the service to be prompt, capable and very polite.

I also want to put in a good word for the electricity people here. The power goes out on a pretty regular basis, but what is amazing is how quickly the repair truck arrives after that. I mean, we're talking under fifteen minutes.

I'm trying to remember, I think I've been through maybe half-a-dozen power outages in the states -- local outages that can be fixed by a single guy in his truck, not major blackouts -- and the soonest any of them arrived on the scene was maybe four hours later.

You'd expect big utilities to give you crappy service, but so far in Mexico, the opposite seems to be the case.

(now watch, my DSL will bust, the guy will never show, I'll be without Internet for the month and when next you see me it'll be all expletives... Pete will have to delete me.)
