Carl, There are many companies doing this type of work, and getting the equipment and supplies is no problem here. It would be nearly impossible to get permission to work for one of them, as no foreigner may do a job that a Mexican citizen is qualified to do. The pay for most jobs here is usually about $10 US Dollars, maybe even $15 US Dollars per day. The typical Mexican work week is six ten hour days per week. Starting your own business might be possible, but certainly not easy or a sure thing. If you attempt to just do the work on the side for cash payments, as soon as your competition finds out about it, they will probably denounce you and you will face legal problems, and possible deportation. In Mexico, there are swimming pools, and then there are swimming pools. If you look at the ads for real estate, you will notice some of them will say “alberca equipada”. That means swimming pool with equipment. That translates into meaning that the pool probably actually has a pump, drain, and a filter. Some of them are nothing more than a concrete tank in the ground, you fill them with a garden hose usually. There are companies here that will bring a truck to a home, with a pump and filter on it. They will then stretch hoses to the pool, and pump the pool water through the filter on the truck, and back to the pool. Crazy no? It might be possible to do this type of work here, but it will take a lot of research on your part in the area where you want to live. I would recommend doing a search of these posts for permission to work, and work permits, etc. for starters. If you don’t need the money to live here, I would say forget it. If you do need the money to live here, I would say forget it. Good luck, Rex "The supreme happiness of life is the conviction that we are loved" - Victor Hugo
