Start up cost for satellite service.

I would like to know the basic start-up costs for satellite TV. I have the small dish on the roof and that's it.

What about buying used equipment; I see stuff quite often in the Ojo.

Thanks.

First which small dish is it, Sky, Shaw Direct etc. second does the dish have the electronics, you know LNB attached to it? With that info, we can better answer the question.

Oh and which system do you want, Sky DISH Mexico, Dish USA, DirecTV US, etc? Each will cost a different amount.

We got Dish Mx. one year ago last Dec. My wife is a long time Temex customer. She went into their office to get it. They installed the equipment 10 days later. The equipment was free with the 2 year contract. The monthly charge on the Telmex bill is $249.00 pesos with a $26.00 peso discount for early payment. We have bank direct pay. So it cost for Basic HD $223.00 pesos per month. Not much English but I donīt need it. Alan

Adding to Pete's good questions:
Which Ojo? Where are you located?
e.g. Puerto Rican TV can be the broadest and cheapest option for small dishes for the eastern parts of Mexico. Shaw has the broadest set of channels for a small dish (107.1W) - and its signals are strong across all of Mexico.

Do you need ABC, CBS, NBC, and Fox?
It can take a big dish to get these in a lot of Mexico.
If you can enjoy TV without the major networks, you may find that Dish Network's US Standard Def programming on 110W is enough for you. You might want to check out Lyngsat.com channel lists - but you have to know what satellites you plan to use. e.g. 110W for Dish on a small dish, 119W for Dish on a big dish, DirecTV on 101-103 W satellites with a big dish, ShawDirect is on 107.3W, etc.

Do you need HD or are you happy with SD?
HD takes a big dish for most Canadian and US services (except the Puerto Rican services).
