Starchoice in Southern Mexico

We will soon be moving to San Cristobal de Las Casas but will retain our home at Lake Chapala where we will live seasonally. At Lake Chapala we have Starchoice. In San Cristobal there is no cable so we will subscribe to SKY satellite service in that city for Mexican TV coverage and some English language programming. While Starchoice has no Spanish language programming, we would like to keep it for U.S. and Canadian coverage. I am told that one can receive Starchoice all the way to South America and there will be no problem getting good Starchoice reception in Chiapas. I have two questions:

Do any of you use Starchoice anywhere in the south of Mexico?

Those of you on SKY. Are you pleased with the service? We want local Chiapas and DF news coverage but wonder if SKY has good international news coverage as well including, for instance, BBC World or CNN International.

An interesting thing about San Cristobal is that it is a decent size town of about 130,000 people but but has no local daily paper and no local TV outlets.. Dailies in Tuxtla Gutierrez cover Chiapas with sections on various parts of the state. As a result, locals depend on radio announcements for local news and event coverage just as was the case in the 1950s in my native Alabama. Therefore, getting news on local TV channels is more important than otherwise might be the case.

We set our StarChoice dish up on the balcony of the condo in Akumal and got the signal. We have the .98m dish as I recall, it's not the small round one but an oblong one about the size of our satellite internet dish. Our friends that we traveled with last year set up their StarChoice dish in San Cris (behind the Hotel Bonampak) and we shared their signal. So you shouldn't have a problem as long as you have the right sized dish and it matches your receiver. In fact, they had the smaller round dish I believe and he got it working. That I'm a little fuzzy on, I'll ask and get back to you if it matters.
