Star Choice

Some of you in Central Mexico may have noticed that the signal from Star Choice is weaker today Oct 11th than it was yesterday. In fact some of you have lost the ability to get Star Choice.

Here in Ajijic, I still get all of the Star Choice channels, sadly some of you are not. Any comments thereon?

I just checked and my signal is down to 77/78 from about 93/94 previously. I havn't checked all the channels, but the several that I watched tonight came in normally. I'm using a 1.2 meter dish. Question: Why is the signal weaker?

It appears to be a weaker signal, because we have a new satellite. The new satellite has a slightly weaker signal in this area.

THE NICE thing about being a moderator is that I can edit things more than two hours down the road.

An installer friend of mine who has a pretty small Dish pointed at Star Choice, had lost all signals, he went up on the roof and tweaked the antenna and is now getting a signal, not as strong as before but a signal. Maybe this new bird is only approximately in the same place. Maybe the Satellite is slowly being maneuvered in to the old position. There are a lot of questions yet to be answered. It would appear, that there is hope for you who have smaller satellite dishes.

Time will tell

Would you suggest to just wait awhile and then try tweaking the antenna to a higher signal? Is StarChoice publishing any new info on the exact location of the new satellite? What is the new satellite's name? Any info would be welcome. I fear that my signals, now in the 70s may not be strong enough under adverse conditions such as rain.

Boy this is really a guessing game. But I think you have it right. I'm just going to wait a week or two, see what others post and then perhaps try to re-tweak my system.

Many folks here, never got more than 45 or so and now are not getting anything. With the mid seventies, I hardly ever had rain fade.

I have to reply to both the StarChoice issue as well as the Samsung saga. In my previouse life someone would be fired for allowing either of these issues to impact paying customers.

No questions allowed.

But here is the problem Irish. Who do we blame? Let's take the Star Choice issue. It is not Star Choice's fault. They are responsible to provide coverage to Canada; and they are doing that. We discovered their signals leaked in Mexico and have been taking advantage of it.

Now is it the satellite dealer's fault? Only if a sloppy installation was made or if sub-standard parts were used.

My Star Choice still comes in great. I am lucky I had a good installer who at my urging installed the biggest dish available from Star Choice. (E75).

I will rant about Samsung after breakfast.
