Satellite internet ?'s

Can't Post | Private Reply
I have been waiting for a Telmex connection in our tiny town of San Pancho, Nayarit since January 13th...... they don't even tell me manana anymore!

I just talked to Hughe's Net in the US and they have good plans but if anyone has any experience with this I'd be grateful for the input.

I only no that works fine around Guadalajara and Lake Chapala, but that it's quite expensive if you are going to be uploading/downloading much data. I also know that a few folks around here who have no other option end up having to choose this very expensive option.

I hope someone with first hand experience will add more.

Much better to get a Telcel account if there's good CEL reception. My 10gig a month contract is about 600 pesos and faster than Telmex 1 meg service. I'm on the net a lot and have never used 10gigs.

No Telmex in my community is why I use Telcel

Interestingly enough I just got a flyer (Colorado) for their service here. 3 levels... $60/mo. $80/mo and $100/mo. Plus $10/mo for equipment unless you buy it outright for $300. Free installation. Service for those $s are: 10mbps down/1up with 10GB data limit (oh, you get another 10GB but it must be used between 2am-8am!). Next level is 10/2 with 15GB and the last level is 15/2 with 20GB. All those speeds are "up to" which is normal for everyone.

But I would have two questions of you..... Does their satellite signal hit you in San Pancho, and how/where would you get the needed equipment. I guess there is another question.... is it legal for Hughes to sell Internet service in Mexico?

I know of no one who has satellite Internet here. Too much other stuff available by either cable, DSL or Cell at much lower pricing with basically no GB limit except on cell. I got a great 5-year DSL price of $15.99 for 7/1 and no limit. Seemingly satellite would only be attractive for someone out in the boonies (up here).
