Satellite Radio

Am considering purchasing either an XM radio or Sirrus and was wondering if anyone as far south as Mazatlan has one of these systems and if so, what the reception is like.

Of course I'm out of my mind. It's dark and scary in there!

Hey Tom

Do you see the "search posts" icon above the messages in the top center of your screen? If you were to use it and enter "XMradio" you would see about six links or previous posts discussing XM radio.

It works great in Ajijic, better than Sirius. So you should have no problem with XM in Maz.

Thanks. I didn't think to do a search, but will do so before I pose my next question. Thanks again.

Tom

It's ironic but I just finished documenting a dispute with my credit card company over a faulty installation of XMRadio when I was up in Texas. The unit has been used successfully in two previous vehicles but when I had this job done, I immediately noticed that the antenna was installed inside the car on the dashboard instead of the roof as the Manual dictates. The installer said that if it works in San Antonio this way that it will work just as well in Mexico. Well, as luck would have it, I get very spotty reception south of San Luis Potosi. So...I give a high grade to XMradio (properly installed) and hope that Circuit City fixes the problem on my next trip north with as little inconvenience as possible.

saludos

Brian

We know of several different friends that use this radio system here in Mazatlan with great success.

Good luck.

XM works in Mexico City. Sirius does not work according to my friends.

In the house, I get three bars and in the car I get 2 to 3 bars depending on trees and buildings. I stick my antenna in the sunroof area of my car.

My XMradio signal strengths are the same in Ajijic; 3 bars when the antenna is pointed exactly at one of the two satellites and 2 to 3 when moving around in the car and the antenna is pointed straight up.

If you want to figure out where the satellites are, go to
http://www.lyngsat.com/packages/america.html and look for XM Radio

If you want know where that is from you link to Lyngsat's "sat tracker" program. Remember most of the XM antennas are none directional, so you usually only get a slightly stronger signal by pointing directly at one of their satellites.
