Samsung calling card update.

Have used it for several calls. Several problems w/calls not being completed (no ring on the receiving phone). This may be a VOIP issue. Still a good deal when the calls are completed but if you are concerned with going over your 100 free calls a month (at US$0.175 appx.) and you factor the added times you have to try to reconnect, it raises the cost per minute. Good point is that if the call does not connect, there is no minute reduction from your balance on the card (at least in my experience).

Again, the above are my experiences and opinions.

I'm in the states and immediately before I left to come up I was given a $10 ATT calling card and a $10 Walmart calling card. Both were meant for calling from the US to Mexico.

Neither I nor Kevin P. the person who gave me the AT&T card could get it to work. The $10 Walmart card Rod Collins gave me, works fine some of the time. Sometimes I get a busy signal, a US busy signal when calling a mexican #. I guess the circuits are busy some of the time.

My point? No cards are perfect. But like Talosian, I have had pretty good luck with my Samsung card while in Mexico.

Overall, even with a few extra TelMex connects I am pleased with the deal and as said, none of the services are perfect. I will also say from my experience, the service is miles ahead of the call-back I was using at US$0.17 perminute.

As to my connection issues, part of them may have been due to the fact I was connecting to a main number and then trying to get to an extension.

And maybe busy circuits are involved. I know on one call, I connected to the Samsung "system" and then there was dead air for about 20 seconds then the phone on the other side started ringing and I got the connection. Maybe the delay/dead air had to do with VOIP or congestion on the circuits

Also, if I read the Samsung web site correctly, they now have the same deal (1,000 minutes for US$35) which works from the U.S. to Mexico.

Hi Joan:

Do you see the "SEARCH POSTS" icon at the top of the page? I went there and did a search and came up with posts made showing the following URLs. Both sell the samsung calling cards.

The first one listed is an ISP, lagunanet, which has it's offices in Ajijic. The second one is a corporate Samsung link

http://www.lagunanetcallingcards.com/

http://www.goodbyelongdistance.com/samsungcallingcards.html

I hope this helps.

Shown below is an email sent out by the owner of the local Ajijic ISP to his users, one of whom is me. The Samsung calling card now works in the states as well when calling Mexico. Here is that sales pitch.
Dear Valued Customer

As many of you know about a month ago we were approached by Samsung to carry and distribute their calling cards, we have been very pleased with the price and quality these cards have given folks here lakeside. Finally an inexpensive way to call friends and family and has reached a broader market making it easy for even people who do not have Internet access to communicate to the US and Canada

Lagunanet has just released a new set of calling cards in different increments which are 100 Minutes for $80.00 Pesos ($8.00) and 250 Minutes for $150.00 Pesos ($15.00 USD) and of course the 1000 Minutes for $350.00 Pesos ($35.00 USD) which we have been offering. We currently only have the 1000 minute card available in our office, for the other denominations they have to be purchased from our Website at
http://www.lagunanetcallingcards.com but soon you we should be carrying the smaller denomination cards in our office for those reluctant to buy on-line.

Please remember that these cards can now be used in the US as there is a toll free access number which is 1-800-585-8598.

Also soon we will be offering Mexico calling cards to be used within Mexico for local calling but we will keep you updated on these changes and when new products become available.

Rod Collins

I called the US # from the US and the card does work. Sadly I do not know, though, how much the per minute cost is for the call from the US to Mexico
