Prodigy vs. Powells

For the last several days I've been trying to access Powells.com with no success. The problem appears to be with Prodigy's domain name server (DNS) which returns an IP address of 127.0.0.2, which my browser interprets as localhost.

I can otherwise access the site if I furnish my own IP address stolen from a DNS server NOB.

As far as I can tell, no other sites are similarly affected. Notable in that list is Amazon, with whom I ended up placing my order (not because of the DNS, just because their price even when adjusting for shipping was so much lower.)

This is just a fluke, right?

I entered Powells into Google here at www.lagunanet.net.mx in Ajijic and got www.powells.com I clicked thereon and went directly to the site. Might you guys be having trouble with your DNS server?

<www.powells.com> works fine for me.

My impression is that Prodigy's DNS servers have always been a little flaky...

This is weird.

You're right, entering in www.powells.com works, whereas just plain powells.com does not. But only from my connection here with Prodigy. If I go through a server NOB, powells.com does work.

So... well, there it is.
