Problems with Vonage

Can't Post | Private Reply
Since almost one week the quality of my Vonage phone has deteriorated to such an extent that the phone is next to useless.
It appears that the party at the other end can hear me...but the communication is breaking down so much that it is impossible to to tell what they are saying in response.
Three friends in Morelia, having the same provider (Telecable), are enduring the same problems.

Does anyone in other parts of Mexico or with other providers have similar problems?

A speed test shows the following values:
Download 813 kbps
Upload 195 kbps
quality of service: 96%
round trip time 123 ms
max pause 91 ms

There could be other problems, all the way from prioritizing packets to other things I am not smart enough to understand. Here are a few test sites that might help you.

I hear so many complaints about Vonage. I havn't heard many about Iconnecthere. I've been using it for 1 year without a disconnection or audio problem of any kind. I did have problems when I had dial-up and used their "dialer" and a headphone and microphone...sometimes. Now I am using the Cisco ATA186 phone adapter on a 512 Telmex Infinitum connection. I pay US$14.95/month on the NorthAmerica400 Plan which alots 400 minutes to the US and Canada per month, and I have a US phone number for incoming calls. I would suggest that you try Iconnecthere. The parent company is DeltaThree.

The test sites you provided were very useful.
It turned out that the problem is with the IPS. They have to prioritize the VOIP-packets.
