Netflixs - Instant view

Pete

I'm not a tech guy......but you are. So here is my scenario + question.

Netflixs now offers this "instant view" movie option thru streaming video....... It requires a special digital playing device ($100 bucks) but after that it is just $10 bucks a month for unlimited movies and they currently offer over 12 thousands flixs. I stream thru a wire-less network here in the Portland area via Comcast. Newer films are in HD - It's very cool. Last night we watched East of Eden, with the talented James Dean.

Question........Can I set up this up in Ajijic with my wireless Laguna connection? Will the bandwidth support it? Any other issues to complicate this??

Netflix Instant View is so easy here........Movies load in about 30 seconds after I select them and when I pause the movie for 10 seconds or 10 days......it remembers where I left off. Very slick!

I can see where this technology will be the death of the Blockbuster.

thanks Pete and I look forward to your response. I did scan your Tech forum and did not see this type of question, so if you have already answered this somewhere, please advise.

Brad

I'll do my best on this Brad. First, your Internet Service Provider (ISP) has a unique IP address that identifies what country you are in. I have read that Netflix will not upload a film to someone in Mexico. (There are ways to get around this problem, proxy servers, I am told. But I'm not the person to check with on the subject of Proxy servers)

second the internet speeds in Mexico are much slower than in the States. In fact Mexico's average internet speeds are some of the slowest in the modern world Check out http://www.speedtest.net/global.php.

Is the bandwidth good enough in Mexico to do what you want? Sadly I'm not sure, but this is what I think. If you have to watch a live feed or download, sometimes not, if you could download to memory and then watch the film later, sure.

Sadly I may be a techie Brad, but only in some fields and this is not one of them

Wow....you are correct Pete. Huge difference in download speeds (USA as compared to MX)

Doubt if this will work at the slow MX speeds. too bad

Thanks for the response.

we tried that last summer, while I was in Melaque and hubby was still in Colorado. Netflix would not allow because of the Mexican IP address. There are some programs that you can purchase (there's also a free one - Ggoogle Hot Spot Shield) that let you hide your IP/or give you a US IP. We ended up canceling Netflix before I found out about hiding or disguising the IP address.

I have watched available online US network TV shows in Mexico with little to no problems. When the connection is slow, I just let them load and watch later.
