My Star Choice Receiver DIED!

Can't Post | Private Reply
Merriman wants $350 US for a new one. I know I can get one in Canada for $99. Does anyone have one for sale? Know of someone who can fix my current one or is travelling to canada and can bring one back for me? I MISS my TV.
Thanks.

Have you contacted Ed Linfoot - he seems to be the local Chapala area specialist for this system.

First if you are sure that it is your Star Choice receiver not the LNB electronics that has died, why not get it repaired at the repair shop in San Juan Cosala, on the main drag, that everyone talks about? The last time mine died, it died because of a power surge, and I had it repaired for perhaps $300 pesos. If it's the LNB, you can get that replaced.

And also if you were to go to www.starchoice.com you would see several receivers listed for existing customers, one for $79 and the second for $99 Canadian.

Now unless you are a techie, my suggestions probably don't do you much good. So if those suggestions are not realistic, why not check with the other satellite dealers, lakeside who service Star Choice and see if you can't beat that price

Good luck

PS I just read bournemouth's post and I too think highly of Ed.

Hi, Blue. Same thing happened to me a couple of months ago. Paid Ed Linfoot $300 USD for new box.

I have a Star Choice dish in my yard that was used by the previous owner, who moved two years ago. I have no idea if it is usable, but if anyone wants to come and get it, you can have if for nothing. PM Me.

About a month back my star choice receiver died on me. I could get it to come on with difficulty but could not change stations, get the menu etc. Then suddenly I remember this had happened before. So I hit the Satellite button on the hand control and voila...everything was back. I'd had it beside me on the couch and somehow manage to hit one of the other buttons. Whew!! Saved a bundle.
