More on satellite radio

Pete, In an old post, you talked about taping your XM radio antenna to the roof of your car. How did you bring the antenna wire into the car? Did you drill a hole somewhere or just run the wire through the window.

Normally when an XM radio is installed in a car, its done professionally and you never see any wires. I have a boom box XMradio that's not meant for the car. I wanted to see how it would work. So I took the antenna that's meant for a window sill or the beach and taped it to the roof of my Ford Explorer and lead the wire in through an open window, and drove around for a day or three just seeing what it would be like. It worked fine. Now the antenna is sitting on a window sill, where it belongs, and the wire leads to the boom box next to my bed.

XM Radio is now marketing their receivers towards the do-it-yourselfers, as they make their money off of the programming subscriptions. The majority of the systems sold are installed by the vehicles owners. Olalla, the wire coming in from the antenna is less than 1/8 of an inch thick, and it can easily be hidden under the plastic molding that is run around the interior door edge of the car. I have mine running through the top front corner of my passenger door, and the antenna is mounted on the same corner of the roof. There are no wires visible on the interior of my car. If you don't feel comfortable installing it yourself, you could very easily find anyone familiar with car stereos to install it for a nominal fee. BTW the car antenna has a magnet that mounts directly to te roof of the vehicle.

I velcro the antenna to the sunroof glass in my car, and it works fine, even here in D.F.
