Mexico Cell phone service

My husband & I are coming to Mx for a month, Dec-Jan. I have just changed my Verizon Wireless service to their new North America Plan and my calls from and to (for our housesitter & secretary) my cellphone are to be charged the same there as in the States... standard minutes, no longdistance, free nights & wkends, etc. I was wondering if anyone had experience with this?? We will be in several locations, cost if we are roaming is 69cents/minute. According to the service map, most of the bigger areas have service.... I read the former forum and thought it would probably be a good idea to get the phonecard Brian had suggested for when we're in areas with no service... Just looking for advice, is that card still the best thing going? Also, I have a new laptop to bring and wondered how I should set it up to get emails while I'm there...

I have no specific advice, but past discussions make me suspect that the outcome is not guaranteed. It is possible that despite the best intentions and promises, your phone will be useless. On the other hand, it might work great. If you made three trips, you might get three different results, even with the same phone company! You might think about a backup plan if the roaming does not work for any reason, either for part or all of your trip.

For traveling, the prepaid Telmex phone cards work fine, but cost almost $1 US per minute to call the US the last time I used them. Maybe the rate has gone down.

Hi, and thanks!!!

After reading some of the past forums, I got a Procomm account (per Brian) and they seem really great. Only 25 cents from Mx to US...and only billed to a charge card with usage. That, the cell phone, and a phone card, along with email and I should be covered. Muchas gracias!!!
