Looking for an Audio Transfer Service

Can't Post | Private Reply
I need to digitise a number of 1/4" reel-to-reel audio tapes from the 1950's. Does anyone know of someone in the Lake Chapala or Guadalajara area that does this?

Thanks,

I only know that the lCS library will transfer VHS tapes to DVDs. If you still have a player for your small tapes, maybe that could transfer same to a digital CD/DVD. Good luck

Actually, that's a good point!

I have all of the digital audio interfaces and editing software, but what I lack is a reel-to-reel tape deck. So if someone has one of those I could borrow, then I could easily do it myself.

If you have the actual reel to reel recorder available there is a device called the InPort Deluxe that connects to any reel to reel, cassette, turntable, amp, etc, and then in turn connects to any computer running Windows XP (you must check with the manufacturer for functionality with Windows 7 or 8)

After connected, the easy to use software enables recording directly to a computer hard drive. From there it can be burned to CD, or converted to MP3 using Itunes.

The InPort Deluxe can be found on eBay; just type it into the search box. At least one of the merchants ships to Mexico. You have to check as I do not have time to look it up. The device is 24.95 and the shipping is about 17.00. I got mine in 11 days and it shipped from North Carolina if I remember correctly.

I am currently digitizing and recording my vinyl record collection. Furthermore, they include a piece of incredible software that removes click, ticks, and scratches from vinyl records. I would assume tape hiss if any, also.

The device records and saves files in WAV format. You can then easily convert WAV to MP3 using Itunes. Do a search to that effect on Youtube and a video will come up telling how to do it. It is very simple, but only if you know how. The YouTube video on MP3 conversion is great and easy to understand.

Thanks, I appreciate your reply. Unfortunately, my problem is that I don't have access to a reel-to-reel machine. I have the digitising part well under control (I have an 8-channel Presonus Firepod digital audio interface).

I need to find someone who either does transfers as a service, or who could lend me or give access to a reel-to-reel. I've been told that one possibility might be a radio station... although I'm not sure that these days even they would have this ancient technology!
