How to export e-mail messages?

Can't Post | Private Reply
OK; I've had it. I have had a Hotmail account since the beginning. Now, they've switched me involuntarily over to Outlook. I use the Opera browser, which can't open my messages on Outlook.

Any suggestions for a good e-mail provider other than Outlook, g-mail, or yahoo? Don't need bells or whistles and prefer free plain vanilla e-mail.

How do I migrate my old e-mails into a new e-mail account? I have about 1000 messages that I want to maintain, so yes it will be a real PITA.

This is not an answer to your question. Just a comment. I too converted to Outlook. I used to love it, maybe 6 years ago. It's supposedly newer and better now. But it's taking me a while but I am getting used to it. I hate getting old. Things were so much easier to learn when I was younger.

Whatever you do, good luck. Me I'm sticking with I. E. 10 and using Outlook not only for Hotmail but also for my Gmail and another local email service provided by one of my ISPs, Lagunanet.

When I first opened a Gmail account years ago it asked me if I wanted to import my email from another account. I didn't do it so don't know how well it works. Don't know if you can import years later.

Gmail is much faster and cleaner than Yahoo

Not sure why you are having a problem with the Opera browser Here are several links regarding issues and possible fixes.

If you are using the built-in mail client in Opera

Another fix if you have not recently upgraded your browser.

Microsoft caused a lot of confusion when they named their redone Hotmail e-mail outlook.com. It is also the name of Microsoft software e-mail client Outlook.

I have several e-mail accounts with AOL, Yahoo, G-Mail and outlook.com. I had a hotmail.com account but never used it very much. I much prefer the new outlook.com with its clean interface and ease of use. It also does a very good job of filtering spam. It does not have the flexibility and the bells and whistles of G-Mail. I use G-Mail as my client for the other products. It works very smoothly.

Another possible solution for the Opera browser (which for some odd reason is not supported by outlook.com) is to use Windows Live Mail as your e-mail client. Then, point your outlook.com account to Windows Live Mail client. Then use the Opera mail client ti import from the Windows Live Mail client. Somewhat convoluted eh?

I use an older version of Opera, so their solution won't help me. Tried the new version for a week, and it was totally boofed. Switched back. I will continue to suffer with their tabs crap on the older version.

I have never had a spam problem, because I always assumed that if I got a bunch it was my fault. I get maybe 10 spams a year. I still use my human-based memory, so no address book or calendars needed. That also prevents some bad guy from spamming all of my contacts using my address book. I don't need bells and whistles, I just would prefer to read any messages without the waste of time, using Opera.

I can find old e-mails based on my memory of the date it was sent, so I don't need "conversations" with gmail. And thanks for asking each time I want to log in, but I'm not going to give you my telephone number or other e-mail addresses so that you or the government can add them to your databases. Security, but for whom?

Yahoo's website is so cluttered up it takes a few more minutes to load their page before then having to change it from the Mexico version to the US version I prefer. Facebook ? Yeah, right, like I want to go there.

I wipe all cookies and memory on a daily basis. I have a good firewall, Pop up ads are blocked. Java is disabled. I scan using multiple anti-malware and antivirus programs at least once a week. I try not to go to places on the internet where I could pick up bad things. So far, few problems other than 20-something programmers who think I need something new or tricked out because they themselves are incapable of thought (and I know they won't read this because it's more than 140 characters, and I've already lost their short attention span.)

Maybe it's time to go find a pen, paper, envelopes and stamps. And maybe Ted Kaczynski was right in his thoughts, although not in his actions. Sorry to the old farts who've read this far. :-)

I agree Gmail is the best of all free accounts plus with a GMAIL account you have everything google+ Youtube and every other service Google has to offer with a single address and password. However if you want something simple and worry free I suggest getting your own dot com www.yourname.com 13 bucks a year and about 15 bucks a year for hosting email account like me@yourname.com and other goodies
Here is a link yes they have webmail or you can use thunderbird live mail outlook anything. I prefer thunderbird myself.
If anyone needs help setting up just let me know! ;)
Securing your own email address is like owning real estate it belongs to you not MSN, YAHOO, GOOGLE ect....

I feel that I've cheated myself. I have no firewall, only block 1 or 2 site for pop-ups, run Java, don't scan for malware or viruses, etc. I will admit that I don't go to forbidden sites.

As an "ole fart" programmer, I don't run OS's that need all that protection.

I had installed Ubuntu and used the Unity interface and didn't think too much of it. Tried the Gnome one and felt the same way. I liked Gnome classic, but felt that it was difficult to maintain as parts kept disappearing. I like xfce because of the menu that is simular to Gnome classic and the small memory footprint.

Although I have 3Gb of memory, I rarely use more than half of it. CPU hovers around 50% only when I use a Java app. I will admit that I still have the W7 in a small partition. I keep it for my cell phone software in hopes that one day LG will upgrade my cell phone from Gingerbread to, at least, ICS. I do go there once a week to download software upgrades.
