Google Maps now does Mexico too

No maps exactly, but you do get to see satellite photos.

For instance, here's Mazatlán.

I really enjoy this Google service. Sadly while it gives very high resolution for my home town of Seattle, for example, it doesn't do as well for many locations away from population centers, be it my cottage in the country 50 miles from Seattle or in Ajijic, or population centers in other parts of the world like Rome, or Munich, etc.

Maybe things will get better with time.

Yeah, it's so good that I forget I'm using Google, whom I'm sorry to report I'm increasingly distrustful of.

I've been PM'd to give instructions as to how to create the link given above, so let me respond here for the benefit of others...

This is the link that takes you to a worldwide view in Google Maps. Sorry, I should have posted that before.

From there, you can scroll the map around using the mouse as normal. So scroll it so that Mexico is centered, and then start zooming in.

Again, the map contains no towns or roads, so you kind of have to know where the region is you're interested in (for Mazatlán it's easy, I start at the tip of Baja California and then scroll right.)

Once you're in the general area, click on the Satellite link in the top-right corner. Like Pete says, the resolution isn't all that great, but it's enough to be useful for me down here in Maz. I walk around this town a lot and it's easy to lose your bearings. Now I know why... so many curves and weird angles.

Have fun!

This is one of the most impressive applications I have seen in quite awhile. Unfortunately, is not yet available for Mac users:

Here is the download link: earth.google.com

The server is currently swamped but persistence should result in eventually getting the program. Keep trying.
