Global internet freedom

Like many others, I enjoy internet access to media sites around the world. Because my granddaughter will soon be moving to Malaysia, I checked out the relevant online news websites and internet radio stations. For the latter, I was dismayed to find that the government is restricting access to most stations to local residents only. Oh well. But this morning I went to the Ecos de San Miguel website and got the following message:

I hope this doesn't become a trend.

Actually, it already is a trend, I've been getting those more and more, plus especially entertainment media.

I can understand the limited access as it relates to licensing subscription content but both of my recent denials are attributed to security concerns. That is what I am finding to be new and subject to arbitrary decisions by government officials.

I'm a little late checking this forum this morning. I'm in Seattle, I slept in and got up and 10 AM Seattle time, noon Lake Chapala time.

Thanks for reminding me to go to my iPhone 4, turn my "location services" on for my Tune-In radio app now that I'm in Seattle and then turn them off before I return to Mexico.

I hope that this will allow me to listen to those Seattle stations that now won't allow me to listen, when in Mexico.

My plan it to let the iPhone know that I'm in Seattle and then immediately before I return, if I turn the GPS off, and my TuneIn Radio location services off, that just maybe nothing will look at my IP # etc and that I will be able to continue to stream audio from those stations that are not licensed to allow streaming to other countries.

I sure hope it works. Any thoughts anyone?

Tunein Radio is ok but a few months ago it drastically limited the number of stations it can access. For those stations it has dropped, it makes a suggestion and directs the listener to an alternative. I like Ootunes much better because, to date, it hasn't engaged in that practice. For those who enjoy MSNBC, it is the only ios radio app of which I am aware that offers live streaming audio of its programming.

I was amazed last January when I was playing with Windows 8 that one of the default apps on the windows startup screen was the free addition of "TuneIn Radio". I have the paid addition of "TuneIn Radio" on my iPhone ($0.99 US) and although, I have not checked closely, it didn't seem that the pay one on my iPhone was limited. But I could be wrong. I haven't checked lately.

I just checked ootunes at the Apple Store and saw a $4.99 US charge. Do they have a free version? (Yes, I'm cheap)

Try to tune to 95.7 KJR (Seattle-Tacoma). Its an oldies station that Tunein doesn't offer as it once did. You will be re-directed to the local NPR station as an alternative.

Darn , Brian. I was sure you were wrong. No I was wrong. Here in Seattle on both the free and the pay TuneIn Radio apps for the station you suggested, I got the results you posted.

It's funny, although I would always like to be correct, it's no big deal when I am not correct, especially when I can learn a solution to the problem at the same time. Unless you tell me otherwise, Brian, I will pay the $5 bucks and buy the app you recommended.

Thank you very much for this info. And please tell me whether it's worth buying this new app "ootunes radio"

Brian, try changing your stated domicile from the Republic of Texas to Estados Unidos de América. Maybe that's the problem as I understand that the Republic of Texas is not recognized anywhere but in Texas.

Rick, I am in Seattle and just changed my location earlier on my iPhone by turning my location services on. I will double check but just maybe TuneIn Radio isn't what it was when I first purchased it.

I sure hope I'm wrong :)

Texas takes billions of dollars in grants for urban renewal, education, highways and health, , among other monies. Plus billions from military bases and employees. That is all federal money. Texas is only a nation to the people of Texas who refuse to accept reality and wear a hat in the sun to protect their brain matter.
