I'm sitting here (not in México, though I could be and soon will be) with a dissected NT1 box. One of the two microscopic line wires that plug into microscopic plastic holes in the NT1 connectors came out, nuking my connection. I put it back in, thus my presence, but it won't stay in. If you know what I'm talking about and have a quick easy fix, please email kate@aucegypt.edu ... if not, just ignore me.

I'm not positive from your description, but it sounds like you have a "stakeon" type connection. If so, the wire has to be forced down in the slot to make connection. There is no need to strip the wire as the insulation is displaced when forced down. Lacking the proper tool a pair of needlenose pliers can be used to push the wire down into the slot.

It's the connector below the yellow arrow. Red wire is fine, white one is loose. I tried forcing it down, but that broke the line connection again. My tools are too clunky for this, so I guess I'll have to call a tech, but I do appreciate your help!

That looks like a "poke home" or else a compression connection. Can't tell from the picture. Check the end opposite the arrow. There may be a small screw that needs to be loosened to allow the wire to go in and then the screw would be tightened again........

No screws that I can discover, and my camera won't focus closer. Man, I sure do hate it when I've diagnosed something but can't fix it [whine]. On the bright side, I'm still online, at least until one of the cats jumps up here =:-0

Solved! The tech told me what to do on the phone. I needed to press and hold the corresponding little orange "button" w/ a screwdriver while inserting the wire, then release. Those orange dabs don't look even remotely like "buttons", but now we know.

WOW, I haven't seen an ISDN box in a long time...... but come to think of it my cousin, who lives out in the boonies in Tenn., has ISDN. It costs a fortune for 128kbps but it's his only option to having to live with dial-up.

ROTFL ... maybe someday it will be a collector's item? :-)
I figured ISDN might be used in rural areas of México, which is why I posted here. Cairo has DSL now, but I'm relocating in three months so haven't upgraded.
