Dish Network ABC, NBC, CBS??

Do you folks who have a Dish Network subscription out of the states receive the national networks when you are in Mexico? We're thinking about getting it but are afraid the networks are spot-beamed by area and we wouldn't be able to receive it down here. Does a rural address for the subscription in the US mean you would receive it here but a metropolitan address mean you wouldn't? How does that work? Appreciate any light you can shed on the subject!

Basically, yes. When I signed up with Dish, I had the choice of network feeds from NYC, Chicago or LA. I chose NYC because it was available on the same dish as the rest of the channels I wanted. I am "officially" located in some town in south Texas.

Rolly, if the networks had been available on regular TV as they are in Dallas, Houston, etc. would you have been able to purchase them from Dish out of NYC if you wanted or can Dish not sell the networks in cities where they are offered on regular programming? ~ Linda ~

Here is the way to receive BOTH east and west coast network feeds for Dishnetwork. Utilize a mail service in Texas to forward your mail to Mexico. Make that address the billing address on your credit card. Most are located in Laredo and McAllen. Buy the receiver(s) in the United States. Install whatever size antenna is required for the part of Mexico you will be living in. Call Dish on a VOIP phone line to signup. Tell them that your physical location is on a ranch in Marfa, Texas, where there is no current over-the-air reception of the networks. Say that there is no need for one of their installers to come out because the previous owner had left a Dish antenna on the roof. Give them the Laredo/McAllen address as your "office" to which the bill is to be sent. That is a formality because you will later go to the Dish website and choose the option not to receive a paper bill but instead have your credit card charged monthly. For the most part it is wise to make all communications over a VOIP phone line. Never hookup the receiver to your Telmex line for obvious reasons. Likewise, minimize the use of logging into the website since your IP can be traced to Mexico. This information is based upon nearly ten years of experience with both Directv and Dish. It's not complicated..you just have to keep your story straight :-)

These are all great ideas and have worked in the past and continue to work today. HOWEVER, there are storm clouds on the horizon. I first heard about the following from Tim, and I later received the following information from http://www.savemychannels.com/atstake/

The letter and the associated links from the above URL suggest that just maybe DISH will be forced to stop distributing these network signals on their Conus or broad beams and go back to spot beams making it impossible for one to get the networks in Central Mexico via DISH.

" What's At Stake
A group of network broadcasters are trying to force DISH Network to stop delivering distant network channels to our customers. Distant network channels are the ABC, NBC, CBS and FOX broadcast channels our customers get from us by satellite that originate outside their community. For example, if customers live in rural Texas and purchase New York, Los Angeles, Denver or other network channels from us, they are at serious risk of being shut off.
Hundreds of thousands of DISH Network customers - through no fault of their own - could soon lose the distant network channels they depend on for critical news and emergency information. Customers in every state will be affected, with rural Americans suffering the most. In many of these areas, distant network channels via satellite remain the only option for residents to receive televised news and other critical information. This is particularly important in times of national or local emergency. During Hurricane Katrina, when local channels went off the air, DISH Network provided distant network channels to relief stations, police and fire stations, military installations and thousands of displaced families. Similarly, after 9/11, DISH Network supplied distant network channels crucial to relief efforts.
DISH Network fought hard for years to allow customers the choice to receive televised news and other information originating outside their hometown. While we reached reasonable settlements with hundreds of broadcasters, a small group of vocal broadcasters continues to stonewall - to the detriment of consumers. A recent court decision clearly favors the self-interests of these broadcasters over protecting the rights of hundreds of thousands of consumers who choose to receive their network channels by satellite. Unfortunately, broadcaster special interests used their big money to preserve a law that takes away customers' freedom of choice.
The court's ruling underscores the need for consumers to continue demanding effective legislation that prevents hundreds of thousands of Americans from being denied their network channels. Please take action and help us fight to allow consumers to keep the televised news they have a right to receive."

To learn more about the above go to http://www.savemychannels.com/atstake/ and left click on the appropriate link.

REMEMBER both "Star Choice" and the "big dish" also provide the US networks.

Pete, I'm guessing this 'situation', if it comes about, will have no affect on the delivery of US network channels being carried on Star Choice. What does your cristal ball say?

Luckily www.starchoice.com is regulated by the CRTC, not the FCC. To the best of my knowledge, Star Choice has no plans to change footprints etc on their US network feeds. However, they only offer ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, and PBS from 4 US cities; Seattle, Spokane, Detroit, and Buffalo. The feeds from Seattle and Detroit, are simulcast in both standard and HD format.

They, of course, offer CNN, BBC, etc as well as many other services popular in the US.
