Does anyone know how far south into Mexico that Direct TV will work well?

I know that is well out of the intended "footprint".

I assume that you are asking about the USA service, not the Latin American Spanish service.

I can't answer your question directly, but I do know that it depends on the size dish you use. In my area of northern Mexico (Torreón area), a 2-meter dish is required. As you go father south, the dish will have to get bigger.

There is a company in Huston that provides DirecTV and other services in Mexico. You can contact their Mexico rep Ricardo González Fonseca at monterrey@dbstv.com It will cost about US$1000 to get all the required hardware, electronics and installation. Through their service you can also get the major networks and broadcast stations from certain cities.

I am reactivating my quest for a mexico ham radio license. In the course of that process I have discovered there is a whole (new to me) world of satellite hobbyists, you can broadcast your own images, from your own home, with the right equipment. In the Ham world - anything is possible, if it is in the air, we can trap it.
