If it’s not too late, I would return it to where you bought it, and buy one here. I was in Costco in Cuernavaca yesterday and they have multi-region CD players at reasonable prices. I don’t remember the prices exactly now, or the brands. They were major brands though. I wasn’t paying that much attention to them. I think they were about $100 to $150 US Dollars. I have no idea of what a unit like you bought with the built in DVD – VCR and television would cost here. They are available here. Having said that, some DVD’s sold here will play in region 1 or 4. Not the majority of them, but some. It’s not the end of the world though. We have a region 1 DVD player, and we don’t have any problem with it. If we ever feel the need for one, a multi-region player is not too expensive here. If you buy disks locally down here, just look at the label carefully; some of them are marked for regions 1 and 4. Some of them have a big sticker on them saying region 1 or 4. This issue came up a short time ago. A Mexconnect member sent me a URL for Region Killer. It is a free program to remove the region limitation in the DVD drives of some computers. Unfortunately it won’t remove the region limitation if the CD-DVD drive has a limit set in it. My laptop does, I can only change the region 5 times, and then it is frozen. The limit is set in the hardware, not the software. As for DVD players for the home, if you feel you need one, I believe your only option is to buy a multi-region player.
