DVD RECORDER

Walmart has a DVD player/recorder on sale. We were wondering if this machine will let you record over and over on a DVD like you can do on a VHS tape? We like to have a tape in our VCR and just start recording for later watching whenever a TV program gets interrupted.

No, DVDs are one time only. There is a type of CD that allows limited re-recording, but not DVDs.

Think of DVDs as permanent storage, and use tape for short term saving for delayed viewing.

Alas, I fear I have misinformed you. There are indeed re-recordable DVDs.

Rolly's second post is correct. As far as the discs gos, look for DVD-RW, NOT DVD-R. DVD-RW means rewritable. HTH.

There are also DVD recorders that include a hard disk like the ones found in PCs. With these machines you can record either directly to a DVD-R or -RW or to the hard disk. You can erase recordings from the hard disk and/or dub them onto a DVD-R or -RW. These machines are getting hard to find in the the US due to the influence of the Motion Picture Association of America, but I noticed one on the shelf at Sam's Club here in Knoxville, TN, a few weeks ago.
