Computer service in Mexico

I am interested in purchasing a notebook computer here in Canada to take with me to Ajijic. One concern I have is being able to have the thing serviced if there are any
problems with it - I would rather not have to ship the thing back to Canada by FedEx.

Most major manufacturers offer one form or another of international warranty, at extra cost, that would enable me to obtain such service in Mexico; however, some of these seem to require that I bring the computer either to Guadalajara or even Mexico City. Has anybody had any experience with obtaining such service for a notebook computer? If so, please let me know what brand it was, and what sort of experience you had, good, bad, or indifferent.

Thanks in advance.

Consider Dell; they sell laptops in CA, USA and Mex. Those purchased in Mexico are offered with either Eng or Spanish Language programming.

Go to www.dell.com/ca for a tell # in CA or www.dell.com for the US and www.dell.com.mx for Mexico. Call them and find out what type of coverage they might offer you, if you buy the laptop in CA rather than in Mex.

I have a friend who recently purchaed a dell server in Mx which had a hard drive failure. Dell honored the guarentee. Now admittedly it took a couple of days for the folks to come out from Guadalajara to Ajijic. If this were to have happened in GTA you would have gotten immediate service.

Good luck
